For the kind of fishing that I do, there are about five types of knots/rigs that you need to be able to tie. Obviously, you need a knot to tie your line to terminal tackle (a hook, swivel, or lure). You need to be able to tie a dropper loop. You should also know a stronger version when targeting larger gamefish. Being able to tie a mono to fluoro leader is very important, especially offshore.

And the fifth must-have knot is a spectra (aka braid) to mono/fluoro knot.¬†I’ve been using the John Collins (or Royal Polaris) knot for this particular application, but this FG knot has people excited because it is strong yet has a smaller profile. Learn how to tie it in this video from Salt Strong.
