Recently, the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission organized a Lionfish Removal and Awareness Day. The intent of the event was to bring awareness to the issue. Until recently, the lionfish had no natural predators in its adopted habitat along the Florida coast, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean.

The event successfully removed 570 fish from the local waters around Pensacola. It was well attended by Florida’s recreational fishing community, including the world famous Dr. Guy Harvey. Dr. Harvey is a marine biologist and artist.
In this video, Dr. Harvey explains why the lionfish is such a problem.
